What is Curzen?
CurZen is a Longvida® Curcuma and ginger supplement. Both plant extracts act synergistically, stimulating and promoting digestive function. However, their renown as health elixirs does not only relate to the stomach.
Indeed, curcumin also has a beneficial effect on the complex mechanism of liver function and is a major antioxidant that protects the body from free radical damage.
Ginger helps normalise gastrointestinal motility and its action assists and supports correct cardiovascular system function.
Use and mechanism of action
Also known as “saffron of the Indies” due to the vibrant yellow colour of the pulverised root, this distant relative of the ginger plant comes from the Tropics. Turmeric roots contain curcumin, which is the plant’s main substance and yellow-gold pigment that gives turmeric its properties. Curcuma longa or turmeric is in fact one of the most important Indian spices and has been used in Ayurvedic tradition for millennia to treat alterations of the skin, eyes, osteoarticular tissue and gastrointestinal tract. Nowadays, turmeric is also used to improve liver function and is also used as an antioxidant.
THE PROBLEM OF REDUCED AVAILABILITY OF CURCUMIN
Clinical studies over more than thirty years have shown that the low bioavailability of curcumin is due to the fact that it is rapidly converted in the liver into a form that cannot be absorbed by the body and is then excreted by the bowel.
The use of turmeric “as is” is therefore problematic: the body’s difficulty in absorbing its ingredient curcumin. Only a tiny percentage is able to enter the bloodstream and exert its beneficial effects. On the contrary, the combination of turmeric with a lipid fraction greatly increases curcumin absorption.
Longvida® Curcuma is turmeric “enveloped” by a lipid fraction. Achieved thanks to a patented technology, this special bond maximises the use of curcumin at cell level.
• Recent studies have shown that compared to turmeric alone, Longvida® Curcuma sees 65 times greater absorption in the body, which significantly increases its beneficial effects on the liver.
• Compared to other forms of phospholipid-bonded turmeric, Longvida® Curcuma has a higher concentration of free curcumin in the blood, which is more easily used by the body.
• Toxicological in vitro and clinical trial data confirms that Longvida® Curcuma contains “safe” ingredients, thus attesting to its high quality profile.
Ginger is known for its spicy flavour and pleasant hot, pungent aroma. Its botanical name is Zingiber officinale.
Ginger has many different nutritional applications. The most well known and documented relate to its stimulating action on digestive function (salivary and gastric secretion) and the supporting action it delivers in all those difficult conditions affecting the gastrointestinal system: belching, swelling of the stomach, nausea, bloating and flatulence. Ginger in fact promotes digestive function, normal gastrointestinal motility and the elimination of gas. All this thanks to its ability to stimulate normal peristalsis in the stomach and intestine. Hence its possible use even in cases of nausea.
Some studies have shown that ginger has beneficial effects on cardiovascular system function as it is able to promote normal blood circulation. Articular function is also improved by taking ginger, due to its ability to counteract localised tension.
